The Best of Eldorado - Part 1
The BBC's multi-million pound thrice-weekly "sunshine soap", Eldorado has sustained a 30-year reputation as one of British TV's biggest ever flops. Only 156 episodes were made, aired between the Julys of 1992 and 1993, but one of the show's more positive legacies was the frequency of scantily-clad male cast members, thanks to its sun-drenched setting - the fictional Spanish resort of Los Barcos (packed to the gills with easy-on-the-eye European expats). Plus, in Freddie Martin, played by Roland Curram, it delivered one of the first regular gay characters to feature in a British serial, in a refreshingly sensitive manner.
